Scholarship Competition
Each year, the Winnipeg Youth Orchestras sponsors the WYO Adjudicated Scholarships Competition. There are three levels of competition (Junior, Intermediate and Senior Divisions) and three scholarships awards for each division.
The competition is open to any WYO member in good standing. Competitors perform a piece at the appropriate level for two experienced judges who will adjudicate each performance based on several criteria including accuracy, intonation, phrasing, dynamics, musicality and overall presentation. There is an application fee of $40 required for each application to the Competition.
The WYO Scholarships Competition is an excellent performance opportunity for students. All orchestra members are encouraged to participate, especially those WYO members who may not as yet had the experience of performing in an adjudicated competition. Each competitor receives a written adjudication mailed to them after the competition.
The First Place Scholarship winner in the Senior Division will be featured in WYO’s annual "Wintertide" concert on February 25th, 2019 at Westminster United Church. In addition, this winner will also be featured as the soloist for the WYO "Sounds of Spring" Concert. All of this year’s Scholarships Competition winners will be presented with their awards at the Sounds of Spring Concert that will be held at Westminster United Church on April 15th, 2019.
