ABOUT THE BURSARY

The Winnipeg Youth Orchestras (“WYO”) is dedicated to providing young orchestra players with the opportunity to experience and participate in orchestra playing of the highest order. As such, the WYO is proud to offer a bursary program for those families and individuals who require financial assistance. The program is available for all of our orchestra programs.

Bursaries are awarded on the basis of:

1. The financial need of the applicant’s family
2. The number of musicians requesting a bursary
3. The amount of bursary funds available

The WYO bursary program is funded through fundraising activities and donations. Bursaries will be awarded for one year of registration fees, and the number of bursaries awarded each year may vary based on the balance of funds available. Bursaries are awarded at the discretion of the WYO Board of Directors.

Applications for the bursary, along with all required documents, will not be accepted if submitted after the deadline. Applications that are missing documents will not be accepted. Families are required to re-apply for a bursary every year to ensure their financial information is up-to-date.

INSTRUCTIONS

To be considered for a bursary, follow these instructions:

1. Each family should submit only one application regardless of the number of musicians attending WYO.
2. Unless there is a legal document specifying that one parent/guardian is responsible for the full tuition, both parents/ legal guardians must submit their respective information for a bursary application to be assessed.
3. Please answer every question. If the answer is “nil” or “not applicable” enter “NIL” or “N/A”.
4. Please ensure copies (not originals) of the following 2024 documents are enclosed for all parent(s)/guardian(s):
   1. The most updated pay stub from the employer.
   2. A copy of all information slips (ex: T4, T4A, T3, T5, etc.) for 2024
   3. A copy of your income tax returns (T1) for the year 2024
      1. If you have rental income, please enclose Schedule T776
      2. If you are self-employed, please provide a Statement of Business/Professional Activities T2125
      3. If you own a Corporation, please enclose the T2 – Corporate tax return. (The schedules requested refer to the detail pages not the summary)
   4. A copy of your Canada Revenue Agency Notices of Assessment (NOA) for 2024. If your NOA is not available when you file your application, please submit it as soon as possible
5. Include a letter outlining the need, and how the musician and/or family benefits from participation in the WYO
6. Include a letter of support from the musician’s conductor
7. Include a copy of the completed application form

Privacy Statement: All information provided to the WYO will remain private and confidential.  No information received in connection with bursary application forms will be distributed to any external third parties.
